Hop on Scotland’s only Mountain Railway to journey up in style to the Ptarmigan restaurant.

Serving a choice of light bites including homemade soups and sandwiches, to locally inspired hot dishes such as Highland venison chilli and Speyside beef curry. There’s also options for vegetarians, vegans and children alike.

Open 7 days a week, weather permitting. Pre-booking is not required for the restaurant however you can pre-book your railway trip. For large group bookings please contact us directly.

The Cairngorm Gin Bar

Adjacent to the Ptarmigan restaurant you’ll find the open plan Cairngorm Gin Bar with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the mountain landscape.

Sample one of the local Cairngorm gins including the Mountain Edition, Cairngorm beers or whiskies. The bar also serves a wide range of hot and soft drinks.

The Viewing Terrace

Experience breathtaking views on our viewing terrace outside the Ptarmigan Restaurant and Gin Bar.

With panoramic views of the mountains, forests and glistening Loch Morlich in the distance, it’s not to be missed.

Take a seat on the benches at the terrace and enjoy mother nature at its best.

The viewing terrace is currently being extended to provide an ever bigger and better experience for all our visitors.

The Ptarmigan building is also home to an immersive 270-degree film of the Cairngorms, exhibition, interactive sandboxes for children together with our gift shop.
