Do you provide any accommodation?
We are not an accommodation provider and are unfortunately unable to provide any accommodation for those hoping to relocate into the area, but we will endeavour to assist you with your search for accommodation locally. For our additional seasonal staff looking to join us for the skiing season only, we are currently looking into options for staff accommodation within the local area and are hoping to secure something for a limited number of people on a temporary basis for the winter.
What are the hours of work?
We operate 7 days a week and most staff work 5 days a week. Working some weekends is normal since these are our busiest days. A shift rota is in operation for most departments based on a 37.5-hour work week for full-time staff.
Do you offer permanent positions or zero-hour contracts?
All of our permanent positions are based on 37.5 hours a week for a full-time role and some part-time roles may be available. Our winter seasonal roles are zero-hour contracts. During a busy winter season, we would expect seasonal staff to be able to work 5 days a week, however, we are weather dependent on snow conditions so cannot guarantee this.
Our policy is to maintain staff levels to a point where we can provide enough hours and would recruit more staff as demand increases.
What happens on stormbound days?
If the resort is closed due to weather conditions and you are not able to work, we do pay our seasonal staff two hours per day to cover your costs.
Is the ski road up the mountain safe in winter?
The ski road is managed by us during the winter period. This allows our own team to look after the road and ensure it is safe to open to the staff and the public. Health and safety are fundamental to us therefore on some days there is a delay in opening the road to ensure it is safely cleared.
Can I get transport to work?
There is a regular bus service from Aviemore to our front door at Cairngorm Mountain. It is very rare for staff not to be able to get to work
My Experience at Cairngorm Mountain
Luke Lowen, Snowsports Seasonal Team Member
“Wow! What a humbling and picturesque place Scotland is! It’s the best-kept secret of the UK. Even though there is still so much I want to see, I couldn’t recommend exploring Scotland enough. It truly is a magical place. I worked at Cairngorm Mountain Ski Resort for four months and the view from my “office” was spectacular and everchanging.
My main reason for coming up to Scotland was to learn to snowboard. After one session at Tamworth Snowdome, I fell in love with the sport, immediately bought a snowboard, and signed myself up for my first ever snow season. In four months, I went from being an absolute beginner who could barely turn, to sending backside indy grabs off two-meter ramps!
More than just a pretty picture though, Scotland is a country of warm-hearted, kind and generous people. Everybody who I spent time with on the mountain made working every day a laugh and a breeze. I don’t think I have ever had such enjoyment at work in any other job before (being able to snowboard on the job does make a difference!). From my fellow easy-going lifties, to the fitters, rental guys, and ski patrol who helped us out, from the cheerful shop and cafe staff, all the way to the kind and respectful management, everybody made Cairngorm Mountain a fantastic place to work.
“I don’t think I have ever had such enjoyment at work in any other job before”
Last but absolutely not least, I lived with a group of brilliant, thoughtful, and fun-loving people, who I will remember fondly. There was never a moment we weren’t doing something and building memories. We all contributed in our own way and together we made the season the amazing experience that it was. I wish you all the best in the future!”
