CMSL Closure | Management Response

December 24th, 2020.

Following our temporary closure statement, the management team has discussed the queries raised by concerned customers.

We want to make it very clear – we are closing for no other reason than the safety of our staff, customers and the local community. It has been evident in the past few weeks that, regardless of the travel restrictions, people are insistent on breaking the law and coming into the Highlands from tier 3 and 4 areas and other parts of the UK.

Regarding closure of the snow gates at Glenmore, our consultation with Highland Council and Police Scotland has led to the decision for access to be restricted to essential maintenance staff, Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Service and the Scottish Avalanche Information Service. Our partners in Highland Council and Police Scotland support this action.

We understand the desire of locals to use the access road during winter. However, the First Minister informed Parliament yesterday that she fully expected to announce further restrictions in the coming days in order to do all that is possible to attempt to contain the transmission of the new strain of the Covid virus as it is seeded all over Scotland. She advocated that only essential travel should be undertaken and within a very small local radius.

The CMSL Board fully expect to consider what we need to do for our loyal season pass holders in light of our temporary closure, but it is simply too early to have that engagement until we have a better understanding of how long the business will be closed. Once the situation is clearer, all season-pass holders will be updated.

We will be checking messages, but only intermittently during the closure period – we ask that all further inquiries are directed to info@cairngormmountain.co.uk

Again, from everyone at CMSL, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and we look forward to welcoming you back to Cairngorm when the Scottish Government relax the current restrictions.

Keep safe.

Susan Smith, Interim Chief Executive, Cairngorm Mountain (Scotland) Ltd
