Role Overview

Purpose of job

The Head Janitor will head up and manage a small janitorial team to ensure all cleaning schedules are followed across all areas of the site. The Head Janitor is accountable to the Food & Beverage Manager.

Salary: £25,603 plus great benefits

Roles and Responsibilities

  • To maintain stock levels of cleaning consumable items and work with suppliers to ensure best prices
  • To maintain a high level of cleanliness in public areas, toilets and all back of house areas to meet hygiene requirements
  • To be responsible for the opening of public toilets
  • To manage the team, ensuring all daily, weekly, monthly cleaning tasks are completed and recorded
  • To receive and check deliveries and forward to storerooms, observing food hygiene requirements
  • To remove refuse from all areas to rubbish skip and manage delivery and waste areas
  • To ensure storeroom and cleaning cupboards are kept in a clean and tidy state
  • To ensure that access to the building and storage areas are kept clear
  • To ensure that the wood burning fires are kept clean and ready for use as and when required
  • To ensure that the department operates to the highest standards of customer care
  • To understand and observe the protocols when using the 2-way radio system
  • To be aware of manual handling operations and carry out tasks to specified standards
  • To assist in snow clearing operations as required, emergency exits, pathways and car parking areas
  • To follow all facilities related Risk Assessments and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Observe all Health & Safety requirements. Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety procedures, risk assessments and company policies
  • To identify personal development needs in line with personal and organisational objectives
  • To undertake any other reasonable duties as may, from time to time, be required

People Management

  • Be polite and attentive to all our guests and colleagues
  • Attend weekly “toolbox talks”
  • Attend annual performance management and development processes such as Performance and Development (PAD) Reviews

Person Specification

Experience

  • Experienced supervisor
  • Experience of cleaning procedures in a customer focused environment
  • A valid food hygiene certificate is advantageous for this role; however, we can offer in house training

Skills

  • Ability to lead a team of Janitors
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to give clear direction to all levels from Director to site level
  • Ability to work alone as well as part of a wider team and under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Problem solver

Personal Attributes/Behaviours

The role would suit someone who has had experience in a Janitorial position, preferably in a visitor attraction. You will demonstrate good people skills both customer facing and within your team.

The role will require a degree of flexible working to meet the business needs, 7-day operation and events out with normal operating hours.
