Snow conditions ‘Peak’ at Cairngorm Mountain

Heavy snowfall at one of Scotland’s best-loved winter sports destinations has resulted in the best conditions of the season.

With wintry weather forecast to continue, Cairngorm Mountain near Aviemore in the Scottish Highlands is encouraging visitors to experience some of the country’s most spectacular and diverse snowsports in fresh powder conditions.

The mountain has seen extended snow cover and several lifts and tows are in operation, with runs open to skiers and snowboarders of all experience levels. Both private and group lessons are available for child and adult beginners and intermediates from local snow schools.

With the Funicular Railway currently out of service, skiers can ascend the mountain via a series of uplifts to access the highest slopes before warming up in the newly refurbished Cairngorm Café and Cas Bar at the foot of the mountain.

Susan Smith, interim chief executive of Cairngorm Mountain Scotland Limited (CMSL), said:

“The fantastic heavy snowfall has seen wintersports enthusiasts flock to the mountain to make the most of the snow conditions – with both challenging and gentler slopes open to suit all abilities.

The entire Cairngorm Mountain team has been rallying together to open as many tows and lifts as possible as well as making sure the pistes are in top condition. With snowfall set to continue, we’re hoping to offer many more enjoyable days on the mountain.”

Late season pass offer

People keen to enjoy the rest of season’s snow at Cairngorm Mountain can take advantage of a late season pass ticket available from 1 March at a cost of £200. The pass also gives holders a 10% discount on food, drink and retail at Cairngorm Mountain along with an array of benefits in some of the local shops and restaurants in Aviemore.

Cairngorm Mountain is located in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, around 2.5 hours by car from Glasgow and Edinburgh and approximately 1 hour’s drive from Inverness. A range of public transport options are available including the overnight Caledonian Sleeper from London which stop in Aviemore en route to Inverness, and both CityLink and Stagecoach operate regular bus timetables for the area.
