Train Up, Train Down
What is Train Up, Train Down?
This is the experience most visitors come here to enjoy. Ride the funicular railway on a spectacular 2km journey from the Base Station at 635m to the Ptarmigan building at 1097m, just below the summit of Cairn Gorm. Step out onto the viewing terrace to take in the wonderful views to the North and West. Visitor guides are on hand to point out the sights to you. Experience the weather at this altitude, explore the interpretive mountain exhibition, visit the Shop at the Top and relax in the UK’s highest restaurant and bar.
Am I fit enough?
Everyone can travel by train. Wheelchairs can also go onto the train and out onto the viewing terrace at the top. There is a lift to all levels in the Ptarmigan building. If you have cycled up to the Base Station you can claim a free funicular ticket.
Can children go?
Yes. Junior fares apply to 6-16 year olds. Children aged 5 and under travel free.
One day tickets or Annual ticket?
With a day ticket you can go up and down as often as you like in one day. Annual ‘Friends’ tickets cost only slightly more and entitle you to travel on the funicular for 12 months (but not for skiing).
Adult /Senior £15, Junior (6-16) £10, Family (2A +2J) £35, Family (1A + 2J) £30
What should I wear?
Conditions at the top can be very different from at the Base Station so be prepared to wrap up against the elements.
Where do I buy tickets for this?
At the Ticket Office
